A parcel of land near Faust has been rezoned, paving the way for a future development.

Michael Wolff applied to Big Lakes County May 20 to have land just southeast of the hamlet rezoned to Agriculture District from Commercial/Industrial District.

“The applicant is proposing to start an organic farm which will include greenhouses, aquaculture, and a country store,” wrote county director of planning and development Pat Olansky.

An apiary is also being considered.

Council gave first reading to the bylaw June 22, then advertised for public input.

The municipal planning commission met June 21 and had no concerns with the proposal.

Council also received no concerns for or against the proposal at its July 13 meeting. They passed second and third readings with none opposed.

The rezoning was necessary as none of Wolf’s proposed plans were permitted under the former rules.
