Families and people of all ages joined the Filipino community in the High Prairie area for an annual Christmas and New Year’s party Dec. 27. More than 180 people attended the event hosted by the LuzViMinda Filipino-Canadian – High Prairie organization, president Wintoun Pichay says. Traditional food, dancing, games and fun were part of the evening at the Elks Hall. The local LuzViMinda organization was established in December 2010 and has played a vital role to celebrate and unite Filipino people. Several annual events are held to celebrate the culture of the Philippines. Up next, the organization plans to host its annual Valentine’s Party in February, Filipino Heritage Month in June and a sports festival in August or September.
