The St. Andrew’s Saints girls won their third straight Smoky River Junior High School Basketball League title in Wabasca Feb. 28-29 after winning three straight games. The win also marked the team’s fourth title in five years and concluded an undefeated season against league teams. The team entered the tournament as the overwhelming favourites and did not disappoint. In their first game, the Saints defeated the Prairie River Raiders of High Prairie 62-14 with Brooke Keay and Hannah Haas leading the way offensively. In the semi-finals, Kelly Cox and Kirsten Bruder led the team to a 50-8 victory. The final was a rematch with PRJH and outgoing seniors Heidi Porisky, Jessie Zuniga, and Jessica Gordon led the way as they capped off the tournament with a 46-8 victory for their third straight championship. In winning the league tournament, the Saints also won the High Prairie School Division title. In the front row, left-right, are Joseah Pecpec and Charlotte Boerchers.
