Oilmen’s Association gives back to the community

The High Prairie Oilmen’s Association is a non-profit organization ran by community volunteers from the oil and gas and industry service sector.

Established as a society in 2011, its purpose of is to provide recreational, social opportunities that bring community members together.

Since its establishment the oilmen volunteers have hosted an annual curling bonspiel at the High Prairie Curling Rink, and a golf tournament at the High Prairie Golf Course. The events are always well attended and supported by local businesses including the oil and gas sector.

The proceeds from association events are grants to organizations in our community each year to help support their programs.

The 5th annual Oilmen’s Golf Tournament is being held on June 17 at the High Prairie Golf Course. Twenty teams of four people will enjoy 18 holes on the course followed by a barbecue steak dinner and awards presentations.

The entry fee is $500 per team. If you would like to register, you can contact Karen Gray at [780] 523-1883 or email kgray@tervita.com before June 10.

Golfers will have the chance to win a major hole-in-one prize, play raffle games for prizes, and enjoy a barbecue pit stop on the course to refuel during play.

Golf and curling are not the sole focus of the organization. The activities of the society are limited by the availability of volunteers and these two events have become annual go to’s. The group is open to exploring partnerships to hold other events, or activities that fall within their mandate.

If you would like to learn more about the organization or find out how you can get involved, please call Oilmen’s Association president Arlen Quartly at [780] 536-7151.
