Obituary – Paul Bedard Trucking founder passes away

Paul F. Bedard
Sept. 29, 1944
– May 1, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of High Prairie resident Paul Ferdinand Bedard at the age of 75 years in Edmonton, at the Royal Alex Hospital.

Paul was born in Chelmsford, Essex County of England, on Sept. 29, 1944. He then moved to Canada in 1948 at the age of three and grew up in the town of High Prairie with his grandmother, Alma Bedard, and uncle, Louis Bedard. Paul’s father, Charles Bedard, served in the army where he met Patricia Robinson, Paul’s mother.

Paul worked numerous jobs while growing up, eventually settling into trucking. He looked up to his Uncle Louis and bought his first truck from him in 1969.

From there, he began his long-time self-employment with Paul Bedard Trucking. For many years Paul drove up and down the roads and endured countless hours and miles for his family, who he cherished deeply.

Paul met his wife, Agnes, in 1961. They later wed in 1965. They raised their children in High Prairie with first born, Robert born in 1966, Brenda born in 1968 and Debra born in 1971. His family was his pride and joy all throughout his life.

Paul later dissolved his trucking company in 2014 and slowly began to enjoy his retirement and later years. He sure missed his tucking but loved to share his stories from the many years of hard work.

Paul later discovered he had many siblings from his mother’s side and often wondered about his mother, although at the time it was too late as his mother passed away in 2003. He was; however, able to connect with his brothers and sisters who reside in England and was glad to have all his early childhood mysteries solved so he and his family could pass on the history for generations to come.

Paul took pride in watching the accomplishments his grandchildren endured during his life and to see many of his great-grandchildren grow. He enjoyed fishing, playing his guitar, and spending his spring and fall camping in Osoyoos, B.C. with his wife, Agnes, and going for coffee at A&W where he met with his buddies for some good ole bull-shitting.

Paul is survived by: his wife, Agnes Marie Bedard; son Robert [Veronica Bedard]; daughters Brenda Bedard, and Debra [Lorne] Pitre; grandchildren Brandy, Sheldon, Jordan, Andrew, Marie, Shaylene, Katelynn and Kaelon; and great-grandchildren Sawyer, Heidi, Eevie, Sabreena, Hershel, Haelynn, Grayson and Hala.

Paul was predeceased by: his father, Charles Bedard, in May of 2012; and his mother, Patricia Robinson, in 2003.

The family would like to thank Dr. Niazee and the nursing staff at the High Prairie Hospital.

Paul will be deeply missed and remembered by many.

As per his wishes, there will be no funeral service or celebration of life at this time.
