Former Town of High Prairie councillor Brian Holmberg is the first to publicly announce he is seeking the mayor’s chair in 2017.

Holmberg made the announcement at the High Prairie Regals meeting April 18, although he informed others beforehand his intentions.

“I think there are things that have got to be done that they aren’t doing,” says Holmberg, who adds now was not the time to elaborate.

He admits “it’s a long ways away” from the election but decided to let his intentions known now since his decision has been made.

Holmberg was first elected to council in a byelection in 2012 with Mike Poulter, but was defeated in the municipal election in 2013. He served on the Viking town council for one term.

Holmberg, who is currently recovering in hospital from a stroke, previously campaigned on the platform of working as a team, positive thinking, working with regional partners.

Holmberg was previously employed by the Town of High Prairie as its economic development officer.
