Businesses and organizations throughout the region were honoured at the High Prairie & Area Chamber of Commerce’s Growing Together Gala Oct. 20.

Fifteen plaques were presented to the winners in various categories by the chamber executive at the Peavine Inn & Suites, site for the event.

Chamber of commerce president Barry Sharkawi acted as master of ceremonies, and told the audience of about 70 attending that they could take pride in being chosen for awards.

“This year we approached nomination of business awards through our customers themselves. We placed boxes around the business district for your customers to choose and explain why they chose you.”

In contrast to other years, no nominations came from the chamber.

Sharkawi added the comments in the nominations were to be read later during the presentation of awards.

Sharkawi also used the gala to urge everyone to join the chamber and thanked those who attended.

“You are the ones that make the chamber a success. Chambers across the province are listened to by all levels of government. We are joined by many small businesses to make our voice heard.

“We encourage and welcome all new and old businesses to join our organization. We are the foundation of our community that celebrates achievements, economic growth, services and appreciation.”

The chamber is busy the next few months with a Christmas promotion. They have also agreed to give away hotdogs and hot chocolate at the family games event at High Prairie Light-Up Nov. 30.

Chamber of commerce meetings are the third Thursday of each month at Amiro’s Steak House at noon. Next meeting is Nov. 15. Everyone is welcome to attend.
