A young man from Peavine will pay a hefty fine for celebrating a little too much at a family birthday party before driving away.

Stanley J. Gauchier, 21, was fined $1,200, plus a $360 victim fine surcharge, after pleading guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit of .08 mg when he appeared in High Prairie provincial court April 18.

His breath sample measured 210 mg, almost three times over the legal limit, Crown prosecutor Haydn Shook said.

“The reading is aggravating,” said Judge D.R. Shynkar.

Gauchier, who had no previous criminal record, was also given the automatic driving suspension of one year.

“He says he was at his mother’s birthday in High Prairie and celebrating,” duty counsel lawyer Harry Jong told court. “He was drinking for quite a while.”
