High Prairie public works staff will be helping St. Mark’s Anglican Church spruce up its cemetery.

The decision was reached at council’s May 24 meeting after a request was received from St. Mark’s Anglican Cemetery Committee chair Stella Sware.

Sware wrote the committee is fixing sunken and broken graves in its 102-year-old cemetery. She asked for use of the town’s picker truck and other equipment to lift covers and headstones.

“The town staff did such a nice job at the town cemetery. We are in need of your expertise, opinions and help,” Sware wrote.

Public Works Supt. Vern Walker said they would be glad to help. When asked about cost, he said just fuel and wear and tear on machinery. Work would be done during the evening.

Sware also requested that a rest stop and garbage can be added along the sidewalk that passes the cemetery. Walker replied plans are in place for several benches along the newly-built walking trail to the hospital.
