Many, many times people tell me the first thing they read each week in South Peace News is Tot Talk!
Clegg’s Corner? Bah!
The fact is people are drawn to the wisdom and humour the Grade 1 and Grade 2 children offer each week. It is very entertaining. Once in a while you get an answer that literally leaves you on the floor laughing.
Or, as in the case earlier this year, left me with such a good feeling I will never forget.
“Do you think grownups do enough for kids?” I asked the Grade 2/3 class at Driftpile Mihtatakaw Sipiy School Feb. 21.
“Yes! My mom and dad love me,” said Calleigh Bellerose.
Bless her and the parents! No better answer in the world than that! It warms this editor’s “cold heart” every time I think about it.
Quite some time ago, I designed a Tot Talk book for sale. Work began with the best of intentions. Due to an unexpected design flaw [that’s my little secret!] they did not get done.
But … a change in the design has occurred and not one but two books will be for sale in the next 4-6 weeks, plenty of time for Christmas. Hint, hint, you shoppers!
The new books are called Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. If you like Tot Talk, you are in for a treat. Each book contains 94 sets of Tot Talk. Each Tot Talk contains the answers from five children so that is 470 different answers in one book, or 940 in two books!
Vol. 1 contains selected Tot Talks from Jan. 21, 2015 to June 13, 2018 while Vol. 2 covers the period from Jan. 4, 2012 to Jan. 14, 2015. Not all Tot Talks covering the time period in South Peace News are published but a random selection.
So, if your child was in Grade 2 in 2012, he/she is likely in Grade 8 now. Embarrass them now by showing them what they said six years ago. I am sure some views have changed such as how old you should be to date, whether boys or girls are smarter, what will you be doing when you’re 100 years old, and more.
If Tot Talk is a popular as I believe it is, it should be a good fundraiser for the High Prairie Community Beautification Association. All South Peace News has to figure out is a price to cover costs and show a profit to donate to Beautification.
I truly hope the books sell. I think they will. They include local children from various communities and schools. They are funny, insightful, wise, and a bit silly all rolled into one.
They will make a great Christmas stocking stuffer.
Please support this worthwhile endeavour when they go on sale.
