Motorists driving in Joussard on Peace River Ave may have to soon slow down.
At its regular meeting July 25, Big Lakes County council passed the first two readings to a bylaw to reduce the speed limit to 50 km/h from 80 km/h from Red Sky developments west to Range Road 140, about 1.355 km.
A request was submitted by South West Shore Condominium Association to lower the speed limit.
“Lowering the speed limit in this area would provide a higher level of safety to the travelling public and pedestrians,” says Vic Abel, director of public works.
“With the growth in [Joussard] and surrounding areas, there is becoming more and more traffic on Peace River Ave.,” condominium association secretary Cory La- brecque wrote in a letter.
“We, the condo board, would like to see the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h all the way to the Cattails Campground turnoff.”
A public hearing will also be held after two weeks of advertising in South Peace News.
