Salute to Seniors begins June 3

A Senior’s Spring Tea at the High Prairie Municipal Library will kick off events June 3-8 when the region celebrates Seniors Week.
Big Lakes FCSS organizes most of the events, but others also help including the library, Pleasantview Lodge, the Park Theatre, Town of High Prairie, and the High Prairie and District Regional Recreation Board.
Senior’s Week is held each year to honour and recognize the senior citizens for all they have contributed to the region, past and present.
Following is a list of events this year:
June 3: Tea at the library
The High Prairie Municipal Library hosts the tea, which begins at 2 p.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Tea and dessert will be served to patrons by library staff and volunteers at beautifully decorated tables.
June 4: Wellness Fair
Big Lakes FCSS holds a Wellness Information Fair at the High Prairie Legion Hall from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Two sessions are scheduled this year. At 11 a.m., a dietician will speak on Hydration and You – Smoothies, then at 1 p.m. Planting a Mini Succulent Terrarium will be held, the guest speaker from Christie’s Greenhouse.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
June 5: Soup and Chowder
The Legion is again the venue on June 5 for lunch and bingo. Soup and chowder will be served from noon to 1 p.m. with bingo following.
Big Lakes FCSS sponsors the event.
June 6: Lakeshore Lunch
June 6 is the Lakeshore Lunch at Kinuso. Each year, host Big Lakes FCSS rotates the lunch among south shore locations.
A delicious lunch is served and prizes given to people attending.
The June 4-6 events conclude FCSS’s participation in Senior’s Week events.

June 7: Barbecue at Pleasantview Lodge
High Prairie Pleasantview Lodge holds its wiener roast and games day from noon to 2:30 p.m. The roast goes rain or shine.
It is the ninth year Pleasantview has hosted the roast.
June 8: Barbecue at Jaycee Park
The Town of High Prairie and High Prairie and District Regional Recreation Board are co-hosting a Senior’s Barbecue.
The barbecue will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Jaycee Park, or the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre if it is raining or too cold.
June 8: Movie at Park Theatre
At 2 p.m. the Park Theatre sponsors a movie at 2 p.m. with pop and popcorn provided.
