The E.W. Pratt Chargers JV men’s basketball team captured bronze at a tournament Jan. 19-20 in La Crete.

Pratt defeated Fort Vermilion 84-76 in a solid game for bronze in the six-team tournament.

Bryce Phillips led the Chargers with 31 points in the game and 98 for the tournament.

“The boys all played well and with great sportsmanship,” head coach Charles Gargan says.

“We played against players bigger than us, we played through injury and we were still about to compete.”

The Chargers fell to the host La Crete Lancers 64-48 in the semifinals.

In their first game, Pratt lost to Rainbow Lake 79-72.

Next, the Chargers edged the High Level Bears 79-77.

Andreas Scarborough netted 54 points in four games and Logan Krupa added 33 points in four games.

“We now have a good idea how and what to practice,” Gargan says.

“We definitely have some good players.”

Pratt players also cleaned up on the skills competition. Krupa captured the three-point event while Angelo Martin and Bryce Phillips won the two-ball competition.

Gargan is coaching in his first year at Pratt. He coached in the Northwest Territories several years ago with senior coach Neil Barry before Gargan moved to High Prairie.

They were rejoined when Barry became principal of E.W. Pratt in September 2017.
