Election signs for the Metis Nation of Alberta (MNA) provincial vice-president and Zone 5 president positions have been popping up around the area.
Bev New of Faust, the long-time president of the Zone 5 (Slave Lake, High Prairie and region) is trying her luck for provincial vice-president.
The other prominent campaigner is Dean Lindsay, for Zone 5 president.
Lindsay’s signs speak mainly of a desire to revive Metis cultural activities in the region.
Both candidates have competition.
According to the official candidate list on the MNA website, also running for provincial vic- president are Daniel Cardinal and Victoria Norris.
Running for the Zone 5 presidency against Lindsay are Mickey Andrews of Faust and Elmer Gullion of Trout Lake.
Gullion is the incumbent vice-president.
Running for the Zone 5 vice-president position are Hilda Lambert and Jamie Linington.
There will be four polling stations in Zone 5 – at the Friendship Centre in Slave Lake, the Days Inn in High Prairie, the community hall in Faust and St. Theresa School in Wabasca.
Voting day is Sept. 18.
Running again for provincial MNA president is incumbent Audrey Poitras.
Opposing her is Ron R. Quintal of Fort Mackay.
