This is Marie Matula with this week’s South Peace News report from High Prairie Elementary School.

Grade 2R is off to a fabulous start with 21 bright, smiling students. They have read various stories about starting school and have had discussions about what they did this summer. They are very excited to join intramurals during lunch hours this year!

Grade 5C was bubbling with activity last week. They have five new students in the classroom this year. EA Laura St. Cyr has once again joined 5C for the year. Teacher Brenda Coulombe, is looking forward to lots of fun, exploring and creative things happening in 5C this year!

We have a whole new year of excitement happening at HPE. Kim Corless is our new principal and Spencer Smith is our new vice principal. We have three new teachers to our school: Brianna Hartman in Grade 1, Hillary Zahacy in Grade 3 and Crystal Stecik in Grade 4. We would like to welcome them and all of the new students to our HPE family.

In Science, Grade 4S is studying Waste and our World-Nature walks to Jaycee Park. This walk teaches students how waste is recycled by organisms in nature.

A few of the things 4S students are learning are: PE – cooperative team building games. Math – open-ended Math problems representing, ordering, composing and describing numbers to 10,000 with Place Value charts.

The Four-Fifths class welcome you to a new year of learning and thinking. Four-Fifths is excited for their new adventure in a Grade 4/5 split class.

Grade 5P students are settling into routines nicely! They’ve shown quite the group work skills already. It’s going to be a fun year!

Have a great week and check in with us next week to see what’s happening at HPE!

It hasn’t taken long for Grade 4S students to buckle down and get to work. Lucas Anderson, left, and Ethan Barton are students in Crystal Stecik’s class.
