This is Marie with this week’s South Peace News report from High Prairie Elementary School.

Grade KC is having a lot of fun creating their own pumpkin patch. They finger painted pumpkins and made vines and grass! The students have also been participating in the global read aloud, they have met some students from St. Louis, Missouri and have enjoyed sharing books with them!

Grade 3J students did a great job on their patterns and algebra unit test. They are now learning about place value.

In Language Arts, Grade 4S students are connecting globally with another class from Pennsylvania in the USA. Mrs. Steak reads aloud to both classes via Google hangout. In Math, the students are developing number sense through Math operations. In Social Studies, the students are exploring Alberta’s geographical regions through mystery clues and thinking critically about the land.

This week, Grade 5P enjoyed a food guide presentation and activity with our wellness coach Ms. Jessie!

Grade 5C students are again headed to Sucker Creek First Nations for round 2 of Land-Based Learning. This round the students will learn the history and purpose of trapping from the past to the present. The Elders and Knowledge Keepers will model and demonstrate different types of traps and snares. The students will be given an overview of the variety of fur-bearing animals in our area. Students will see a mock trapline and learn about animal habitats. The students are excited and looking forward to this trip on Thursday.

Grade 5 students have mailed our invitations to our local veterans. They are hoping to see many of the Veterans at our Remembrance Day assembly in November.

Have a great week and check in with us next week to see what’s happening at HPE!
