Big Lakes County has set its fifth annual charity golf tournament for Aug. 16.

At its meeting Jan. 24, council confirmed the date for the Big Lakes County Charity Golf Tournament at the High Prairie and District Golf Course.

The Town of High Prairie and the Town of Swan Hills will continue as municipal partners.

Money raised will again support the High Prairie and District Health Foundation, the Stollery Children’s Hospital and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“We will leave ourselves open to add any others and they would be presented for approval by council,” says High Prairie East – Banana Belt Councillor Don Charrois, who chairs the organizing committee.

Last year, the county presented $10,000 to the heath foundation and $5,000 each to Stollery and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Before the event, council determines the amount for each recipient.

Over the previous four years, funds have also been raised for the High Prairie and District Food Bank Society and Swan Hills Family and Community Support Services.

The event raised $26,876 last year and attracts about 100 people from various municipalities, business and industry, Indigenous communities and elected officials from the provincial and federal governments.
