High Prairie Tolko was the winner of a friendly food drive challenge with High Prairie Forest Products.

Tolko initiated the challenge to support the High Prairie and District Food Bank, says a Tolko news release Jan. 17.

“I am proud to say it was the outstanding Tolko High Prairie team that made the larger food bank donation,” plant manager Doug Stangier says.

“What’s a friendly wager between competitors.

“It’s good fun that does good in the community.”

Tolko donated 938 pounds of food valued at about $2,345 of much-needed perishables for the people who need it most, the release says.

“Our friendly rivals at West Fraser collected 735 pounds of food valued at about $1,835.”

However, Tolko was not the only winner.

“I think it is important to note that the real winners are the less fortunate people who will benefit from such a generous donation in a time when it is so needed,” Stangier says.

The second-place mill had to wear the colours of the other company.
