A second Big Lakes County councillor has been granted a short-term leave.

At its regular meeting June 27, council accepted a request from Faust Councillor Robert Nygaard to be excused from all council meetings from Sept. 23 to Nov. 15, a total of four meetings.

No reason was stated in the report to council from deputy CAO Jordan Panasiuk.

Nygaard gave no reason when asked by the South Peace News.

The request came the same day that Grouard Councillor Fern Welch returned to her first council meeting after being excused for medical reasons. She was excused from meetings on May 23, June 13 and June 27.

“I would expect her to be back before that,” Reeve Ken Matthews said when the request was granted at the council meeting May 23.

Welch previously was absent at regular council meetings on April 25 and May 9.
