High Prairie RCMP have arrested and charged a Drayton Valley, AB man with several charges stemming from an armed robbery at a High Prairie liquor store Aug. 22.

Dakota Frederick Ouellette, 23, has been charged with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest, and carrying a concealed weapon, reads an RCMP news release.

On Aug. 22, at about 8 p.m., a High Prairie RCMP member on patrol observed a male suspect running from a business with a bottle of liquor in the area of 53 Avenue and 47 Street.

“The male suspect got into a white 2016 Jeep Cherokee and fled. Due to public safety concerns a pursuit was not initiated,” says police.

A 911 call was then dispatched where it was learned that a male suspect had entered a store and approached the till and produced a firearm. The suspect demanded cash and departed the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and bottles of liquor. The victim was not injured.

Ouellette remained in custody and appeared in Slave Lake Provincial Court Sept. 26 for a bail hearing. An update was not available.
