The E.W. Pratt men’s team finished second in the High Prairie school’s 29th annual Chargers’ Invitational Volleyball Tournament Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
The Chargers lost 27-25, 25-17 to the Wabasca Mistassiny Mustangs in the final.
“The boys did an excellent job,” says Pat Larade, first-year head coach.
“They have seen big improvement since the start of the season.”
Mistassiny was the only team to beat the Chargers in the eight-team tournament.
“We hope to keep improving and make another run at the provincials,” Larade says.
After the Chargers won their home tournament last year for the first time since 2002, the team went on to finish fourth in the provincial championship tournament.
“We’re getting better each week,” Larade says. “Our strength is passing and the players have good chemistry with each other.”
The Chargers beat Valleyview Hillside 25-20, 25-17 in the semifinal to advance to the final.
Undefeated in their pool, High Prairie beat Kinuso 25-9, 26-24; Peace River Glenmary 23-25, 25-22, 15-12; and Paul Rowe of Manning 25-20, 21-25, 15-10.
Two weeks before their home tournament, the Chargers finished second in a tournament in Grimshaw.
