PICs – Big Lakes County opens fire halls to community

Girl power comes to the fire department at the Enilda fire hall during an open house. Left-right, are Patyn Caouette, 9, Enilda junior firefighter Desiree Bissell, Cassie Caouette, 10, and cousin Navada Caouette, 11.

Fire districts in Big Lakes County hosted an open house and barbecue Oct 1 to mark Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13. Events were held at fire halls in Enilda, Faust, Grouard, Joussard and Kinuso. Residents were given opportunity to learn more about the services offered in the county, meet firefighters and learn about some of the tools, equipment, protective gear and fire trucks used in both training and response operations in times of emergency. A children’s colouring contest was also held and door prizes were given away.

Quintin Wilson, 2, left, wants to become a fire chief as he is held by Joussard firefighter Tahria Sawka during an open house Oct. 1. Perhaps in a few years!
Enilda firefighter Tiffany Smith, left, and assistant deputy fire chief Fred Caudron, were busy flipping hamburgers and hot dogs at an open house Oct. 1.
