Big Lakes Christmas Angels program returns under Big Lakes Family and Community Support Services.
“We’re rolling around to the holiday season once again and FCSS is already working on this year’s hamper program,” says LaRetta Casavant, outreach worker for Joussard.
“Since this is completely funded by donations, we ask for contributions of cash in order to buy groceries that make up healthy, standardized hamper boxes for the recipients.”
Each year, residents graciously donate to this program so that FCSS is able to distribute food hampers and toys to individuals and families within our own communities who may need a little extra help at the holidays, she says.
“We also ask for donations of new toys or cash to purchase new toys so every child has something under the tree,” Casavant says.
“Any amount helps, so please consider this program that benefits residents of your own community when giving this year.”
Eligible recipients within the county boundaries appreciate the hampers.
“It is our goal that every resident of the county enjoys food on the table and toys under the tree this Christmas,” says Louise Myre, executive director of Big Lakes FCSS.
“At Christmas, and especially during these down economic times, stress levels increase for many low-income families as there are no additional resources and this can add up to major disappointment, especially when children’s expectations cannot be met.”
Applications for hampers will be accepted until Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. There will be no exceptions.
Donations and applications are accepted at FCSS offices and at the county office in High Prairie.
Cheques may be payable to Big Lakes County and may be mailed to Big Lakes County; Box 239; High Prairie, AB; T0G 1E0.
Monetary donations receive official receipts for taxes.
